Yes — Rev strings traditional.
If you're looking for someone to string your stick traditional — real leathers, hand-tied diamonds, the way the game was meant to be played — you're in the right place. Rev has been stringing traditional pockets for more than 30 years.
What happened to traditional?
Traditional started leaving lacrosse in the late 1990's and was almost completely gone by the mid-2000's. Lacrosse gained popularity and companies trying to scale were figuring out how to string sticks quickly and cheaply. Mesh was pushed in the market as a quick and cheap way to string a stick. But why settle for quick and cheap? With a custom strung stick, you get better feel and harder shots. The only maintenance is, if it gets wet put crumpled paper in it overnight. Don't fear the unknown. Lacrosse sticks were "gut strung" long before mesh was even invented.
Trad stringing — common questions
- What's the difference between trad and traditional?
- They're the same thing. "Trad" is just what stringers and players call a traditional leather pocket.
- Do you still use gut string?
- Yes. "Gut string" is what old-school players call the runners in a traditional pocket. Rev uses full-grain leather gut strings, conditioned and broken in by hand, the way trad pockets have always been built.
- Will it work in the rain?
- Yes. Rev breaks every pocket in, so they hold up in weather. Lacrosse started as an outdoor game.
- Can you string my old head?
- Almost always. Send a photo first if you're not sure. Rev will be straight with you if a head is past saving.
- How long does it take?
- Trad pockets take 3–5x longer than mesh. Turnaround is set when Rev gets your stick — you'll know up front.
- Six diamond or seven diamond?
- The thought is, the less diamonds, the less friction on the ball for harder shots. The more diamonds, the more hold the pocket has on the ball. I've been asked to string four-diamond before. It's all personal preference.
